Container to Clinic (C2C)

Containers to Clinics (C2C) is a non-profit, charitable initiative that seeks to improve the health of women and children by providing access to primary healthcare through networks of converted shipping container clinics.
Clinics are staffed by local health professionals in-country. C2C's approach to rural medical care is designed to strengthen the entire healthcare system of a country from the bottom up by building capacity to treat illness locally. C2C clinics focus on improving the lives of women and children through vaccinations, safe pregnancy and delivery, and health education. C2C's model allows for standard design and operations and for replication across regions.

A shipping container, once retrofitted for use as a health clinic, is a durable, standardized, adaptable, secure structure with significant potential for replication and consistent care services. The interior of an industrial shipping container can be renovated to allow space for a small consultation room, a small laboratory, an office for staff, and storage and inventory space. Modified for ventilation, light, and utility connections, a container clinic provides a personalized, local-level venue for community members to seek treatment services or preventive health education.
The Container Clinic can be organized as a stand-alone structure or as a complement to improve services and capacity adjacent to an existing structure – health facility, community center, school, or church. The relatively small container clinic functions as a gathering place for community members; works with existing social organizations; and provides robust health education programming that addresses a multiplicity of community health concerns: prevention of disease transmission, sexual health, gender relations, women’s health, antenatal care and eldercare.

Wonder Grass Bamboo House

Census (2001) reports that there are around 11.4 million houses are non-serviceable kutcha/temporary houses needing replacement, and an absolute shortage of 3.2 million houses in rural India. This amounts to a total housing shortage of 14.6 million dwelling houses in rural India. According the ASSOCHAM report the rural housing shortage is going to hit 47.43 million by year 2012. The main reasons for this shortage is lack of affordable housing technologies, low access to financial supports and to some extent failure of Govt. schemes.

Wonder Grass Initiative Pvt. Ltd. founded by Vaibhav Kaley offers a innovative solution for providing affordable houses for rural dwellers. Their core operation involves processing-packing-transporting and installation of modular houses with bamboo being the main construction material. The production node manufactures different housing components such as Column, Beam, Truss, Purlin and other accessories such as different joineries systems etc. These components can then be then sent to any desired location where they are erected on a standard foundation as per the design instruction. Since most of the prefabrication work is done in the village it reduces migration.
